Chinese New Year is fast approaching. Writing and displaying Chinese Couplets and Calligraphy is part of Asian tradition during this festive
In this workshop, Aozora Instructor Wong Kee will share the history of Chinese Calligraphy and some pointers on appreciating this ancient art form. A chronology of how the Chinese word evolved will be surveyed. This will allow you to visually distinguish the various Calligraphic styles, such as the Bronze Seal Script, the Clerical Script and the Running Script, just to name some.
We will then have a hands-on session to write the calligraphic word – Spring (春) and Prosperity (福). Instructor Wong Kee will also share with you how to write a couplet and guide you along. You will be introduced to the unique materials of Chinese Calligraphy and will be guided to try it out on your own. From how to hold the Chinese brush, to how to create each stroke and put it together in a desirable composition, our instructor will facilitate the entire process. All essential materials required will also be provided. This timely creation can be put up in your home this coming Chinese New Year.
If you like to purchase some beautiful creations by Calligrapher Wong Kee, you can do so at the end of the class. Instructor Wong Kee is a Chinese Ink painter and calligraphy practitioner. She graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 2011, holding a Diploma in Fine Art (Distinction)-Chinese Ink Painting Major.
